POSITION
Using co-ordinates, compass points and directional arrows. Use the N, E, S, W arrows to move the boat around the grid, avoiding the islands. An opportunity to introduce simple grid references, asking students to move the boat to certain islands. Ask what are the co-ordinates of the different beaches, for example. Ask for instructions to get there, either using compass points or move to square a2, then a3.... etc
TREASURE HUNT ASSESSMENT
Test your ability to follow directions and move a character around a map to find treasure. Make decisions about the best route to take at several points on the journey. Apply your knowledge of major compass point directions and your sense of left and right.
